Pastoral Ministry Major

The Pastoral Ministry major is designed to train men to be versatile and effective leaders in a contemporary pastoral ministry. Because of our biblical conviction, women are not permitted to enroll in the Pastoral Ministry major. In addition, Pastoral Ministry majors may elect an emphasis on pastoral ministry/church planting in an urban/ethnic setting by taking three additional courses (see below). A partial list of the objectives for this major is given below. Upon completion of this program the student will be able to:

  1. Prepare expository messages suited to various cultures and age groups, utilizing a knowledge of the Greek language and proper hermeneutical principles.
  2. Evangelize within and across cultural groups as well as develop and direct a local church evangelism program.
  3. Understand and implement biblical principles regarding pastoral counseling within and across cultural barriers.
  4. Plan and organize needed services and programs in the local church through the use of pastoral leadership and organizational dynamics.
  5. Model and disciple others toward a mature Christian life.
  6. Distinguish biblical mandates and cultural preferences so as to minister comfortably and effectively in various cultural contexts.
  7. Lead Christian worship for various cultures and within various age groups.
  8. Understand his own personal skills, utilizing strengths and weaknesses to face the challenges and problems of pastoral ministry.
  9. Articulate and implement a biblical philosophy of pastoral ministry.
  10. (For students taking the pastoral ministry/church planting in an urban/ethnic setting emphasis) Plant and pastor churches in an urban or inner-city context.

B.S. students majoring in Pastoral Ministry should plan to take courses according to the following schedule.
